- Ramlo, Marie
- (Marie Conrad-Ramlo, 1850-1921)Actress. Ramlo had a lengthy career at the Residenz Theater in Munich, where she played Nora in the first Munich production (albeit abridged) of A Doll's House (in 1880, under Ernst Possart's direction). Ramlo was one of very few German actresses who also wrote and published dramatic criticism. She defended Naturalism on the grounds that it was theatrically effective, maintaining that "natural" performances were far more effective than virtuotistic displays. "What we need . . . are people of flesh and blood [who] speak, feel, and act like human beings!" (Die Gesellschaft, 3:593).
